Equality at PRS: Inclusion for All

At Princes Risborough School, our commitment to being Positive, Responsible, and Successful means ensuring that every member of our community, student, staff, and parent, is treated with dignity and respect. We don't just meet our legal duties under the Equality Act 2010; we strive to create a culture where diversity is celebrated as a core strength of our school.

Our Strategic Objectives

Our current equality objectives (2026-2029) are integrated into our School Development Plan and are reviewed annually to ensure we are making a tangible difference.

Objective 1

To ensure the ongoing inclusion of LGBTQ+ students by maintaining 'PRS Pride' and delivering specialist staff training to rigorously challenge and eradicate homophobic bullying and language.

Objective 2

To analyse student assessment and behaviour data annually, identifying trends related to race, gender, and disability to proactively reduce performance gaps and report progress to the Local Governing Board.

Objective 3

To identify and monitor trends in recruitment data regarding race, gender, and disability, ensuring our hiring processes remain transparent and reportable to the Governing Board.

Objective 4

To anticipate and meet the needs of refugee and overseas students by providing expert pathway guidance at KS4 and KS5, establishing robust communication with families and hosts, and delivering targeted English language support.

Objective 5

To embed unconscious bias awareness across the school by training staff to counter bias in key decisions and teaching students the critical thinking skills needed to recognise and challenge bias in the wider world.

Review Date: March 2029

Monitoring & Accountability

These objectives are not just words on a page. They are monitored through Senior Leadership meetings, student focus groups, the Deputy Head Student with responsibility for EDI, and reports to our Governing Body. We are committed to an open culture where safeguarding and equality are everyone's responsibility.

Protected Characteristics

The Equality Act 2010 was introduced to ensure protection on the grounds of specific characteristics (referred to as protected characteristics). For schools, this means that it is unlawful to discriminate against students or treat them less favourably because of their gender; race; disability; religion or belief; gender reassignment; sexual orientation; pregnancy or maternity. Marriage and civil partnerships and age are also 'protected characteristics', but these apply to staff but not students in schools.

As part of The Insignis Academy Trust, Princes Risborough School works within the Trust’s equality, diversity and inclusion statement of intent.
