Our History: A Legacy of Transformation and Investment
Princes Risborough School has been a cornerstone of the local community since 1957. Originally established for 400 young people, the school has evolved significantly, but our most rapid period of growth has occurred in recent years. As an oversubscribed school, we have successfully secured substantial investment to ensure our facilities match the high aspirations of our students.
Our history is now defined by a commitment to providing a 21st-century learning environment where every student can Aspire and Achieve.
The Hawthorn Building: A Hub for Humanities
In 2024, we opened The Hawthorn Building, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to the Humanities. This building serves as a specialist hub for academic rigour and critical thinking, providing our students with a modern, university-standard environment in which to explore the world around them.
Specialist Innovation: Science, Art, and Technology
To support our research-informed curriculum, we have combined tradition with innovation across our specialist practical areas. Our site now boasts:
- The Food Technology Laboratory: A professional-standard kitchen environment designed for culinary excellence.
- Art & Textiles Suites: Creative studios equipped with modern resources to foster artistic talent.
- Modernised Science Labs: Specialist laboratories that allow students to engage with an aspirational practical, evidence-based Science curriculum.
Elite Sporting Facilities
Our commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom. We are delighted to have secured significant funding from the Football Association for the construction of a state-of-the-art 3G Pitch and Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA). Scheduled for completion in Summer 2026, this development will cement PRS as a premier centre for sport in the region, providing elite-level training surfaces for our students and the wider community.
A Strategic Future with Insignis
Joining the Insignis Academy Trust (IAT) in 2018 marked a pivotal shift in our strategic direction. Under the leadership of Simon Baker, former Head of Princes Risborough School, and now working alongside Executive Headteacher Marcus Pickover, we have moved into an era of unprecedented stability and growth.
Today, we look forward with confidence. We are a school that honours its community roots while focusing firmly on a future where excellent facilities and high expectations ensure every student is Positive, Responsible, and Successful.
