Our History
Princes Risborough School has a long and dynamic history as a central institution in its community, evolving to meet the needs of students and adapting to educational trends while holding on to its core values.
Established in 1957, it was built to provide quality education to around 400 young people in the town of Princes Risborough and its surrounding areas. Over the decades, the school has transformed significantly, expanding its facilities, adopting new curricula, and prioritising a supportive and inclusive atmosphere for students.
One of the school’s hallmarks is its commitment to improvement and excellence, as evidenced by its favourable Ofsted reports over the years. These inspections have highlighted strengths in the quality of teaching, student welfare, and leadership at the school. Positive evaluations from Ofsted have reinforced the school’s reputation as a nurturing and effective learning environment, and each report has provided a roadmap for areas where the school can continue to grow and adapt.
To further enhance the learning experience, Princes Risborough School has seen several refurbishments and upgrades. These improvements have modernized the facilities, creating a more engaging and functional space for students and staff alike. Classrooms have been updated, new resources have been added, and other parts of the school, such as science labs, Technology rooms, a new purpose-built sports hall, and in 2024 a new state-of-the-art Social Sciences building have seen significant enhancements. These upgrades have been instrumental in supporting students’ academic and personal development.
In 2018, a major milestone for Princes Risborough School was its decision to join the Insignis Academy Trust. This partnership has allowed the school to benefit from shared expertise, resources, and opportunities for collaboration with other institutions in the trust. As a result, Princes Risborough School has been able to strengthen its academic offerings and develop new programs that further support its students’ success.
Through these advancements, Princes Risborough School continues to thrive as a respected educational institution, valued by its students, staff and the community.
