Pupil Premium
The Pupil Premium at Princes Risborough School
The Pupil Premium is allocated to a school to support the education of children from low-income families who are eligible for free school meals (FSM) and children in Local Authority care. It was introduced in April 2011 for children in Reception to Year 11. The government extended eligibility for the Pupil Premium in 2012-13 to pupils who have been eligible for free school meals at any point in the last six years and to children of service families.
National Aims
The aims of this grant are to:
- Address inequalities
- Tackle disadvantage
- Reach those pupils who need it most
- Reduce the attainment gap and enable more pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds to get to top Universities
Level of Government Funding
The Pupil Premium in 2020 - 21 is £955 per pupil eligible for FSM and £310 for each service child. £2,345 is paid towards any child who is Looked After or Post-Looked After. Looked After Children are children in the care of the Council, through a Care Order made by a court or voluntary agreement with their parent(s) to accommodate them. They may be looked after in a children’s home, by foster carers, or other family members. All unaccompanied asylum seeking children are also Looked After Children.
How was funding spent last year?
Last year we spent a large proportion of the funding on ensuring all students were fully equipped to learn through access to technology and resources.
Additionally, we continued to provide students with a range of revision resources, and text books that they could use to enhance their learning. This had a positive impact on the results attained.
One-to-one mentoring was also provided for some students throughout Year 11 to support them with their academic endeavours.
Some funding was spent on keeping students healthy and encouraging students to stay active.
Finally, funding was also used for bespoke interventions, such as uniform, and breakfast.
In our planning we are endeavouring to adopt a very flexible approach that enable us to respond to the individual needs of each of the students who have attracted extra funding.
