Literacy & Reading: Empowering Every Voice
At Princes Risborough School, we believe that literacy is the foundation of all learning. Our mission is to ensure that every student becomes a confident, fluent reader and an articulate communicator, prepared for the academic rigour of our 11-18 curriculum and the world beyond the school gates.
The PRS Reading Programme
To support this, we have introduced Reading Plus into our morning tutor time programme for all students in Key Stages 3 and 4. This research-led initiative is specifically designed to:
- Develop Fluency: Increasing the speed and efficiency with which students process text.
- Enhance Comprehension: Strengthening the ability to extract deep meaning and nuance from complex information.
- Build Vocabulary: Equipping students with the 'academic tier' language required for success in GCSEs, A-Levels, and future careers.
Literacy Across the Curriculum
Literacy at PRS is a collective responsibility. Teachers prioritise "disciplinary literacy", teaching students how to read, write, and speak like experts in every subject.
